The Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Museum of Art, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was opened in 2001 as an addition to an existing building on Lake Michigan, which still houses the majority of its permanent collection of art. Its exterior and interior are equally fascinating. The Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunscreen with a wingspan of 217 feet, folds over the spacious Windhover Hall at night and during inclement weather. Twice a day the wings are folded and then re-opened as sightseers watch. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Copyright 2011 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
