The Present Church On 16th July, 1850, the Bishop of Salisbury (in the absence of the Bishop of London) consecrated the present church. Colonel Hamilton Tovey Tennent, who lived at Pynnacles, a large house in Green Lane, which was burnt down in 1930, gave the field upon which it was built. The Earl of Aberdeen laid the foundation stone in the presence of Queen Adelaide. This was the last public appearance of the Queen Dowager, who was then living at Bentley Priory, a fine mansion on the Great Stanmore/Harrow Weald border.

The new church cost £7,855 Os. 3d. Of this sum, the Rector, the Honorable and Reverend Douglas Gordon, Lord Aberdeen’s son, gave £1,000. Lord Aberdeen himself gave £2,000, a Church Rate produced £3,000 (this had to be underwritten by the Churchwardens) and the remainder came from subscriptions, including one of £300 from Miss Martin who lived at Woodlands, Stanmore Hill.
