This image was shot in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, East Africa in the spring of 2014.
This wonderful, albeit small, pride of lions appeared as our Land Cruiser approached almost one by one. It was obvious that the young female cats were enthralled with the beautifully maned male but he had already chosen his mate. As we approached, the mature male rose up and was acutely aware of the narrowing distance between us. As quickly as they appeared, they disappeared back into the safety of the rocks after realizing we were not a predator which needed to be dealt with at the time.
