Description
Today I took a walk down the railway ties in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. Looking down at the ties, I reflected upon how they came to be under my feet, uniting my country.
The CP Rail was built between 1881 and 1885 by thousands of navvies. On the BC side of the Rockies, the workers were Chinese coolies making between .75 to 1.25 a day to perform the most back-breaking and dangerous labour which amounted to practically slave labour. In 2006 the Canadian government formally apologized to the Chinese population in Canada for their treatment both during and following the construction of the CPR.
When will the first world countries stop taking advantage of the rest?
Artist's Finishing Recommendations:
"Ties that Bind Us" is one of my most popular images. FAA's fashionable and luminescent Metal Print would be my pick to play up the contrast of light and dark in this image. There are numerous attractive custom framing/matting options available to suit any decor. I encourage you to experiment by clicking on the finishing icons located above this text to choose your favorite finishing.
