Description
A young messenger boy runs toward a Union soldier with a cup and water for the fighter in a reenactment of a battle in the American Civil War. In this sepia toned image, the youngster is shown in mid stride and his hurry is apparent. While most soldiers in this conflict were between approximately 18 and 40, boys did serve as drummer boys, musicians, messengers, nurses, and scouts for the troops. But during the heat of battle, many put such duties aside and joined the troops in combat.
Featured in the ABC group April 2017.
