I am a fine artist, graphic artist, photographer, poet, and musician. I grew up in Marion Jones Housing Projects in North Chicago, Illinois. I was the oldest of three children. When I was eleven months old I accidently pulled a black skillet of hot grease onto the side of my head. I suffered third degree burns on the side of my head and down my back. I had to have numerous skin graphs and plastic surgery. My father was murdered a month before my fifth birthday. I could not wear a hat in school and I was called names because of my burn scar on the side of my head. I turned to the arts as a means of expression. I found that if I could give meaning to a blank sheet of paper I could do the same with my life. The arts provided me with a way to find a constructive way to do deal with destructive feelings. I intuitively understood that I had to be better in spite of what my circumstances were and not bitter because of them. I studied fine art under Preston Jackson at Western Illinois University where I graduated with a BA in Studio Comprehensive Art with emphasis in Advertising Design.
I often times say we are each like a pebble in a pond.... we cause a wave that ripples 360 degrees. My hope is that my works in some way inspires the way you feel or captures it; that you can connect and relate to the spirit of my work.
Sincerely,
William E. Hutchison Jr.
