Description
Ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta) basking in the sun. Ring-tailed lemurs are endemic to the island of Madagascar, where they inhabit scrub and forest. Their bodies grow up to 40 centimetres in length and their tails can reach 60 centimetres in length. Unlike other lemur species, ring- tailed lemurs spend a lot of time on the ground. They enjoy sitting in the sun, exposing their stomachs to the heat. They mainly feed on leaves, flowers and fruit, but will occasionally take bird's eggs and insects. Ring-tailed lemurs are social animals, living in matriarchal groups of up to 30 individuals. Photographed at Berenty Reserve, Madagascar.
