Description
Standard periodic table, colour-coded for element valencies. The periodic table shows the chemical elements ordered by atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus), but arranged in rows (periods) so that elements with similar chemistry occur in the same vertical column (group). Here, elements with the same chemical valencies are shown by the colours identified in the key at right. Chemical valency is a measure of the number of bonds an element can form. Each element is represented by its chemical symbol. Above each symbol is the element's atomic number, and below it is the atomic weight, and the element's name. The valency data follows the IUPAC conventions of 1994. For this periodic table without a key, see C001/3014.
