Description
Swallow-tailed bee-eater (Merops hirundineus) with an insect in its beak. When this bird catches an insect, it beats it repeatedly against a hard surface as a defence against a possible sting (as found in bees and wasps). It then swallows the insect head first. Photographed in South Africa, in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
