Takayasu's arteritis. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the middle section of the descending thoracic aorta in the abdomen of a 42-year-old patient with Takayasu's arteritis, showing bypass grafts used to treat the condition. Takayasu's arteritis, or pulseless disease, is a rare inflammatory disease of the aorta and its branches that can result in aneurysms (weakenings of artery walls), which can be fatal in the aorta. The cause is unknown, but treatment involves taking corticosteroid drugs, such as prednisone, and surgery for repairing any aneurysms often through the use of grafts. Here a pseudoaneurysm has formed at the anastomosis (reconnection) of the grafts. The patient has previously had a kidney transplant.
