Description
The Victoria crowned pigeon is a large, bluish-grey pigeon with elegant blue lace-like crests, maroon breast and red iris. It is part of a genus of three unique very large, ground-dwelling pigeons native to the New Guinea region. The bird may be easily recognized by the unique white tips on its crests. Its name commemorates the British monarch Queen Victoria.

Thank you very much Linda. I have seen this bird at several zoos and wanted to get any clear shot, but especially a head shot. Not so easy in most zoos, but I couldn't believe when I saw at least five of these guys freely walking around in one of the tropical bird environments at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh and when this one jumped up on a rail for a perfect head shot, all I could think was "Don't Blow This Shot"!! I was shooting with a 100-400mm and actually had to back away several feet just to narrow the shot to his head.
