Description
Art restoration. Art restorer using a magnifying glass while cleaning a 16th-century artwork. This is the upper half of the large (5-metre-tall) artwork La Pala del Savoldo, commissioned in 1524 from the Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo (1480-1548). This part shows the Madonna and Child, with angels, The unseen lower part shows the saints Peter, Dominic, Paul and Jerome. The large and heavy artwork, of paint on wood, is mounted in a specially constructed frame (seen around edges) so it can be carefully moved and accessed by raised platforms, but still kept on public display at the Pinacoteca di Brera museum, Milan, Italy. The restoration is scheduled for completion by the end of 2005.
