Description
Carcassonne citadel. View along a path leading to the entrance of the Cite de Carcassonne, Aude, France, at sunset. This mediaeval fortified town lies on a hill on the banks of the River Aude in the south-east of the city of Carcassonne. It was founded during the Gallic Empire (260 to 274 AD) and is surrounded by 3 kilometres of fortified double walls (seen here), interspersed by 52 towers.
