Love this duvet cover in the Tree Fort Suite of the Elk View Lodge, Fernie, BC, Canada.
On December 9, 2019, Leonard James (Wildlife Photographer) and I took a trip to Gray Lodge Wildlife Area and later that same afternoon we went to the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge at 2180 State Highway 20 in California. Colusa NWR has the similar loop road situation for visitors as Gray Lodge. You’re allowed to pull over to take photos but not allowed to exit the vehicle otherwise you spook the birds. About where this view is, Leonard had pulled over to the shoulder of the loop so we could get some photos and to let other cars pass. After a few moments, Leonard says “I think we’re sinking.” Lucky for us we manage to carefully get back on the harder dirt road and not get stuck in the mud. The view in the painting is looking toward the Sutter Buttes. Sutter Buttes has as its highest point the summit of South Butte, at 2,122 feet, which is also the highest point in Sutter County
This 15” X 22” watercolor painting was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.
My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman.
