Description
Parkinson's disease brain stimulation electrodes. Coloured frontal X-ray (left) and coloured axial computed tomography (CT) scan (right) of the head of a 54-year-old woman with Parkinson's disease following an operation to implant deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes (white) in her brain. This neurosurgical treatment involves the implantation of electrodes in deep areas of the brain, linked through the scalp to wires leading to a pacemaker (not seen). This sends electrical impulses to specific areas of the brain, helping to negate and control the effects of the disease.
