Description
Adrenalin. Chemical structure of a molecule of the hormone adrenalin (formula C9H13NO3), seen against a polarised light micrograph (PLM) of its crystals. Adrenalin is produced in the adrenal glands in response to triggers such as stress, emotion and exercise. It enables the body to work harder in order to cope with the demands of a difficult situation. It increases the force and speed of the heartbeat, widens the airways to improve breathing and increases blood flow to the muscles to allow them to work harder. Magnification unknown.
