Painted in the studio from photos taken on September 19, 2014. I was returning home from Great Camp Sagamore in the Adirondacks at a painting retreat with New York Plein Air Painters, and had stopped to explore Whetstone Gulf State Park for future potential of a plein air painting trip. After Whetstone I was driving up West Road, County route 29, and stopped to get photos of the scene. The horses near the barn are Plow Horses or Draft Horses. Off to the right in another pasture is Standardbred black horse the Amish use to pull the family buggy. He and the red plow horse were giving me a look. I am a few days away from finishing a closeup of the three plow horses. The location is in the Tug hill area , south of Lowville NY and near Martinsburg.

Artist Statement I produce a lot of St Lawrence River Art featuring the Thousand Islands Region because that is where I live and find inspiration, as well as inspiration from travel and Museum visits.
