Battery Point Lighthouse is now a private navigational aid managed by the Del Norte County Historical Society. The lighthouse has been operating continuously since December 1856.
At a height of 74 feet, the tower's 750 watt halogen bulb provides enough light to be seen as far as 14 miles out at sea, which is approximately the horizon. The original signature of the light could also be seen 14 miles out with the use of a single kerosene lamp.
