Biconvex lens model. This model is designed to show students of optics how light rays passing through a biconvex lens invert the image of an object. An example of such a lens is the one found in the eye. This model was developed by the British professor John Berry Haycraft, who taught at Mason College, in Birmingham, England, in the 19th century. Haycraft published a paper on his model in the 2 October 1884 issue of the science journal 'Nature'. His son, of the same name, was also a professor at Mason College. Artwork from the first volume (first period of 1888) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
