A totally adequate purchase - nothing outstanding, nothing problematic. Since the original was one of your stock images, I cannot speak to whether this was a clear image, besides which the original was a watercolor, so clarity is not essential to the success of the image. I predict that a larger image would lack clarity. But I'm generally satisfied.

My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. Thank you Mary Flore

Beautiful picture. Grew up on northshore so wanted something from there. Metal picture really shows the colors and picture quality is very clear.

This is one of three pieces that I am adding to my collection. Once I have received the other two pieces I will be happy to provide a photograph of the display. The quality of the art piece is exceptional. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase even more pieces!

Artist's Description

Opening on Christmas 1881, the Bird Cage never closed until 1889 as Tombstone became a ghost town when water seeped into the mines. It was considered the meanest establishment in the town, with 26 reputed killings.

The New York Times called it the "wildest, wickedness night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast."

Much of the Bird Cage's interior remains intact; the best preserved historical site in Tombstone. (The original O.K. Corral was destroyed in a 1882 fire.)

Many well known artists appeared on stage at the Birdcage including Lotta Crabtree, Eddie Foy, Lillie Langtree and Lola Montez.

I own the original of this photo; a miniature, one third the size of a post card. It is badly defaced, blotched and stained. It took many, many hours to digitally restore it.

About David Lee Guss

David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
