Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America, and have been recognized in international photography venues. Poster sized prints of three of my photographs were recently installed in a new medical clinic building in a major Texas medical center. Very nice. Can you talk about your technique and medium used here?
Gary Holmes replied:
Thanks, GPaul. I am a GPaul as well. This began as an experiment using the Filter Distort settings on PS4. The original photo was the same one I used for "Etude on Shadow Mountain Lake," which you can find in my Abstractions folder. It has been a while since I created this, but to the best I can recall, with PS4, I used the Filter-Distort-Wave function to create the wave patterns, then used Filter-Distort-Twirl to create the vortex. Aside from initial processing of the original to increase contrast and deepen the saturation, no other processing was used.
