Love it.
This is probably the most famous canal section in Bruges (Brugge), Belgium. The street behind the wall on the right is called Rozenkoedhaai and everyone who comes to Bruges will come to this scene at some point! Our bed and breakfast was a few blocks from here so we were able to walk by at dawn, at sunset, at night, and many times during the day. Bruges is one of the best preserved medieval cites in Europe and Belgium's most popular destination. Because of these canals it is often called 'The Venice of the North'. In the middle ages, the river had been turned into a network of canals that reached right to the main market square, and as a result Bruges prospered as a powerful trading city. However, around 1500 the channel started silting up, trade dwindled, and the city diminished in importance and size. Today the canals are used mostly for tourist boats.
