Artist's Description
dedicated to David Monson
I am deeply touched and grateful for all the people who run in selflessly, bandages and balms in hand to bind the broken. From Mother Theresa to the army medic to the people who volunteer to read to the elderly in retirement homes. The giving of yourself, the pouring out of heart and soul. Thank you.

About Spokenin RED
Once upon a time, I was a ballet dancer. I danced for several years until I had a career ending injury. And then I became a director and choreographer but those opportunities are hit or miss and ever fluctuating. I needed something I had some actual control over. And so I picked up a camera and started doing self-portraits...and loved it. It was mine and I could do whatever I wanted to my image, play whatever role I wanted to play and just created my own little worlds. I still teach ballet, choreograph, direct, maybe even dance a bit on occasion, but now I also take pictures and love every minute of it. I hope you like my little worlds and I'm glad to share them with you.

Huge thank you, Toni! I'm terrible about figuring out how to put things in groups so please don't feel slighted if I can't figure it out! On somethings I am quite brilliant. In others, I am spectacularly dumb!

What a wonderfully moving image, and your (excerpt) description: ". The giving of yourself, the pouring out of heart and soul" to Volunteers worldwide.......f.v.....VIVA
Spokenin RED replied:
Huge thank you, VIVA. I was watching a video and reading up on a woman named Anna Coleman Ladd who made masks for disfigured soldiers home after WWI. She was a Boston socialite and artist who set up a studio in Paris and made composite off the soldiers' photos before they were disfigured. Men whose faces were mangled were made somewhat "whole" by her efforts--and, in return, it provided these men, who had lost so very much, some of their personal dignity and identity back. It moved me so much--but we never hear about these people. We hear about villainy all day--a constant stream of it--and I wanted to shine a little light on the people who do answer the call to run in and HELP. We should hear about them night and day because, through them, we simply have a better world.
