This refreshing, much-loved beverage, originally from the South of France..is available at a fraction of the cost of it's northern competition! And what fun we had at this 'tasting'! The service was extraordinaire.. & generous!
The quote attributed to Perignon in the 1500's to his compadre was.. "I'm drinking the stars!" when tasting the first successful sparkling "champagne".
The story 'round here is: The other local brothers said: "Dom, good man, you're a drunk..! Allez! to the north of France & dry out...for God's Sake!"
So Dom left, but, Zut! He took the recipe with him..! Then the savvy monks up there, patented the process & made themselves distinctly 'The CHAMPAGNE County of France'.. Thereby banning the name of their county on ANY "bubbly" but...
