Story behind the image - every image has a story! The day before this image was taken I shot a number of waterspouts/tornadoes and funnel clouds in Tampa Bay. The next day was going to be a very similar set up so being a native of Tampa I knew the best place to get a good view of as much of Tampa Bay as possible was Picnic Island so that is were I set up. When I saw the sea breeze start to crash into the land breeze starting a bow echo I called some local friends that lived by to warn them of possible severe weather. Within half an hour the funnels began to form, then waterspouts, tornadoes, and severe lightning. I shot hundreds of images until I was run off by the dark and lightning storm. This was one of the worst storms I have ever seen in Tampa Bay and produced some of the largest (Thick) lightning I have seen. This image shows the lightning bolt larger than the waterspout however the waterspout is longer - go figure.
