Description
Columbines have truly unique-looking flowers. With their dangling bell-like shape and spurs at the back, there is nothing else quite them. Also known as Granny’s Bonnet, are known for their bell-shaped, spurred flowers, which range in color from light pastels to bright reds, yellows, oranges, purples, and bi-colors. These perennial, delicate flowers reseed themselves each year, returning the Springtime beauty to the garden.
Some interesting facts of the Columbine:
*Columbine’s Latin name, Aquilegia, is derived from the Latin word for eagle, aquila. The long spurs that extend behind the flower petals resemble the claws of an eagle.
*Native Americans used the crushed seeds as a love charm and for medicinal purposes.
*The crushed roots and seeds were once used to treat headaches, heart problems, and sore throats.

So lovely Debby - a bit too red for my Purples group but a definite like and favourite for me.
