Comet of 1742. Historical illustration of the orbit of the comet of 1742 (C/1742 C1) around the Sun (upper right, a-f) and through the constellations (bottom, a-m). This comet was discovered in February 1742 and last seen in May 1742. Named constellations include: Cassiopeia, Camelopardalis, Cepheus, Draco, Cygnus, Vulpecula and Anser. The comet passes through Lyra (lower right), passes the North Celestial Pole, and fades away at lower left.
