Description
I am a community guy. I have always been in a community group one time or another. I guess it is just the way I was brought up, nothing special. Just one of the people. We are special together.
In the village I was born, we have this Forest group that we formed to give back to the forest and the community. We have constructed a water project for the community. The people in this area are finally very happy to drink clean water from the forest source. For those familiar with the Geography of Kenya, this forest is the source of the Great Athi-Galana-Sabaki River. These are three names of the river as it goes through the various community lands on its way to the coast of Kenya.
Now, back to the main story. On 23rd of February 2019, we had a get together in the forest with all the Friends of Thogoto Forest. We had a fun day together from old men and women, to the youth and children. We had a bunch of activities and childish stuff that made us all so happy.
On my part, I did this painting of a tree without leaves on a stretched canvas, I brought it over to the forest with some acrylic paint; the plan? People to use their index finger to make a print on the branches of the tree. I just stood there and pointed to people where to make a print with their colorful index fingers.
I was amazed by the results. I could not bring myself to sign this work alone. This is a community project. Each person there made a color dot/print on the branches. The art is signed “Friends of Thogoto Forest”
I am looking forward to more communal art projects in the future. Any proceeds from the sale of prints from this tree will go to the conservation of Thogoto Forest. Thank you
