One of the paintings from my advertising art directorship at a Columbus Ohio Ad Agency. Circa 1970. The airport was one of the agency accounts and I spent a lot of time at the airport. I already had my pilots license during this time. This was one of a half dozen illustrations I painted to show the major airlines serving the airport. The original is available. Did you know this can be purchased as a shower curtain? or a bed cover? This is one of several illustrations depicting Port Columbus International airport and the airlines serving it. Prior to TWA jet service these Lockheed Constellations were the pride of the fleet. This particular aircraft was dubbed the
Star of Iowa and entered service in May of 1951. TWA flew coast to coast with stops in Chicago, Indianapolis and Columbus before flying on to New York City. After deplaning, I waited until the crew came off and took this for later painting. That is a Lake Central DC-3 parked out of service just Sorth of the ramp. I flew many times on these birds. A water color needing a sure hand and allowing little room for a mistake. Not your hobby water color.
