Inspired by the Ocala Drive-in Theatre on South Pine Avenue in Ocala, Florida, my 18x24-inch “Creature Feature” linocut shows a scene from Florida’s original cult classic horror film, “The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954).”

The movie's underwater scenes were filmed on location in Wakulla Springs, Florida in Leon County just outside of Tallahassee, and Silver Springs, Florida in Marion County, just east of Ocala. Cars parked at the theater include (from left) a 1957 Chrysler De Soto, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala, a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria and a 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air.

Dive into a dream world of alligators and flamingos, mermaids and swamp creatures, fruit stands and funky motels. Using the linocut printmaking technique of the American Arts and Crafts era, my artwork combines whimsical compositions, luminous colors and the rustic texture of the linocut to capture the charm and allure of a mid-20th Century vacation in Florida. My limited-edition linoleum block prints are made entirely by hand using the centuries-old process of relief block printing. I use hand-held gouges and knives to carve an original design into linoleum or a block of wood.
