"Crossbill in Yellow Leaves" by Loree Johnson Photography. The name of this bird is red crossbill (Loxia curvirostra), though only the adult males are red. Females are brownish with a yellow breast, as seen here. Their unique bills have evolved for the purpose of opening pine cones to extract the seeds, which is their primary food source.
