Description
Cliffs rising in the distance impart a sense of majestic awe to morning canyon view.
This is Daybreak at the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona – a place of such unusual form, color, majesty, and beauty that it is well known even by people who have never visited it. Tourists from around the world flood through the area, but because the canyon is so big, so grand, so deep, so wide, and so imposing, even a massive influx of people does not take away from its sense of silence and tranquility.
And, as with any area that attracts a number of visitors, if one is willing to step away from the beaten path and walk five minutes away from the concession stands, it is possible to find a place to be alone, to hear nothing but the wind whispering through the depths, and to feel that one has this incredible place all to oneself.
Daybreak, the artwork, invites the viewer to get up early while the air is still cool, zip up one’s jacket, and take a little hike along the pebbly paths of the park to this overlook. With the advent of light and the advance of dawn, the colors of the rocks and craggy cliffs shifts and changes as light shines onto shadow, and shadows move from one area to another.
While the rocks themselves are red and orange and rust and russet, the sun’s play of light forms colors of lavender, purple, blue, and violet – a shifting, changing palette of color in this incredible, ever-changing painting of nature. As the sun rises and casts its full strength upon the rocks, the cooler blues and violets recede for awhile, to return later in the day as the rays diminish with sunset.
This is a place of beauty, a place of silence, a place of meditation and tranquility and thought. Enter into the world of Daybreak and let your mind, and your soul, rest.
