I was out shooting macros of butterflies and bees in a field that is surrounded by a walking and bike path. It is not uncommon for me to be spooked by someone using the paths. Matter of fact, I jump numerous times while photographing because I get so involved with shooting. Today, I was trying to block out any people noise and just submerge myself in nature.
I am photographing along using my tripod and camera focusing on a bee on yellow yarrow when all of a sudden I feel a nudge in my back. There behind me, stand two little ones. Yes, they nudged me because they were curious.
I slowly moved my camera and tripod to the walking path to give them room but they followed me. Since they are so young, I decided to try and ignore them and continue about my business. They are wild animals and I don't want them to get comfortable interacting with humans. For their safety.
We shared the field for about a half and hour. Everyone once in a while they would come up close to me, and again I just did my best to ignore them. Although, I did fire off a couple of shots with my macro. I couldn't resist.
They stuck around until a couple decided to try and walk up to them. They took off running and circled back to me about 10 minutes later.
It was a neat experience to be standing so close and sharing their home but respecting them as the creatures they are meant to be, wild animals,
