Description
Dromeosaur dinosaur and early mammal. Illustration of a feathered bird-like dinosaur (Dromeosaur, upper left) confronting an early mammal (lower right). Dromeosaurs date from about 125 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous. They are a type of raptor, forming part of the theropod group of carnivorous dinosaurs. Some scientists think that these dinosaurs could be a link between dinosaurs and birds. Mammals evolved from mammal-like reptiles (therapsids) around 225 million years ago during the Triassic. Mammals and dinosaurs co-existed during the remainder of the Mesozoic Era (Age of Reptiles). After the mass extinction that led to the end of the dinosaurs around 65 million years ago, mammals survived and dominated the Cenezoic Era (Age of Mammals).
