Description
Theodore Roosevelt: World War One Anti-German Prohibition Broadside titled "What Roosevelt Thinks of the German-American Alliance", published in Westerville, Ohio by the American Issue Publishing Company. The broadside consists of one long attack by TR on the German-American Alliance, the "Prussianized Germany of the Hohenzollerns", undue German influence in American affairs, etc. He says: "There is no room in this country for any organization... which... is lukewarm in the great crusade against her in which America will henceforth play a leading part." TR promoted early involvement in the European war and even lost one son, Kermit, to the conflict. The poster concludes: "Swat the Breweries, chief supporters of the German-American Alliance, and Help Win the War. Your Dry Vote Will Do It." Ironically, after the war concluded, the passage of the Volstead Act and the 18th Amendment did shut down the breweries for over a decade.
