Description
Art that makes a statement can awaken our consciousness from the deep slumber of ignorance. This thought provoking black and white photograph of aged oak trees ahead in the distance juxtaposed with the view to the rear of a church and graveyard is a unique representation of the dynamic between positive and negative, yin and yang, life and death, hope and despair. Ultimately, it represents the significance of where choice can take us. Whether viewed from a religious, spiritual, psychological, physical, or philosophical perspective, the message is the same: look at where you want to be. We can’t control everything that happens to us, but we can choose how we react. It’s the perfect gift for a stoic. A stoically-minded reaction to this photograph might be generalized in the words of the great philosopher and Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius: “Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what's left and live it properly. What doesn't transmit light creates its own darkness.”
This composition was created with particular attention to contrasting perspectives and textures in order to emphasize the raw essence of the powerful message behind it. The coarse texture of the oak trees and the imposing shadow cast by a tree onto the church in the grave yard serve as metaphorical mirrors of our consciousness and the reality we exist in. This artwork is an excellent option for any seeker of enlightenment looking for inspirational artwork. It could be displayed as artwork for a counseling office or psychologist’s office or as a unique framed gift for a spiritual mentor.
It has the presence to stand alone or can be displayed with a collection of bold black and white artwork united by a similar theme (see ‘Cradled’, ‘Solitary Tree Stands Firmly In A Foggy Field After An Early Evening Rain Shower In Black And White’, ‘Gorilla Deep in Thought’, ‘Morning Run - Black and White’, and ‘Not Quite Unfurled Fiddlehead Fern’.)
