Egyptian goddess Wadjet. In Egyptian mythology Wadjet is the patron goddess and protector of Egypt. She is depicted either as a cobra or as a woman with a lion's head. This painting is found in the tomb of Queen Nefertari. Nefertari lived around 1300-1255 BC and was the first wife of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II. Her tomb was rediscovered in 1904 by the Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli. It is located in the Valley of the Queens, near the ancient city of Thebes, Egypt. It is one of the best preserved and most ornate of all known tombs. In 2003 the tomb becameclosed to the general public.
