These two were part of a herd of about 30 elk which live in the area near Brinnon WA. The bull elk here is the dominate male of the herd. This was shot with a telephoto lens, as getting near these animals is to invite danger.
They come down to graze in town regularly in a field next to the river which runs through the area.

I began shooting pictures around the age of 8 when my grandfather gave me my first camera. Eventually I talked him out of a 35mm camera (an old Argus) with a flash, a couple of lenses and a tripod. I was on my way. I still have all of those cameras and the tripod, all in working condition some 50+ years later! Around 2000 I purchased my first digital camera, but the early digital days were still not good for my preferred subjects. (landscapes, mountains, barns etc) Eventually I became friends with a fellow who was an editor of a car magazine, and when the opportunity came up I bought a used Canon Rebel from one of his stringers. Along with the camera came a couple of lenses and I put away my last film camera. In my collections here...
