Gem Lake is situated high in the Cascades in NW Washington about an hour west of Seattle. The hike up to this alpine lake is about 3 hours or so and includes passing Snow Lake. This particular morning we chased the stillness and cloudless sky and sat and enjoyed a great snack near this beautiful 360 degree view. If only those mosquitos were someplace else
About Mark Camp
At age 50, I decided to remake me; sure everyone thinks about changing their life from time to time, well I did it. I lost a lot of weight, and started looking for ways to stretch the new me. I found hiking and climbing in the local mountains in Western Washington. In my first year as the new me, I climbed many of the local 5,000 to 6,500 foot peaks many times, including summiting Mount St Helens and I climbed and summited Mount Rainier twice in a rather adventurous10 week period. In the process, I built strong friendships and even found that I enjoy climbing...with just me and my camera sometimes.
