Description
In late September in Interior Alaska, the tempting fruits of the summer and early fall are withering. Autumn's colorful displays are long gone, and the leaves are turning to brown. Nature's beauty is still there for those who look closely, however. Soon after this photo was taken, the winter's first snow arrived.
These berries are not true cranberries. They have a single, large seed in the middle. Many Alaskans use high bush cranberries for juice or jellies.
