Description
View of the orchard on Carter's Mountain - Charlottesville, VA - USA
Established in 1974 in an old apple barn, the Chiles family Carter Mountain Orchard’s retail business has grown into one of the most recognized farm markets in Virginia. Open early July through Thanksgiving (and weekends in December), the market offers a wonderful selection of local crafts, fresh produce, jams and jellies, tee shirts, and other gift items. Pick-Your-Own and Select-Your-Own peaches and nectarines are available in July and August. During September, October, and November, over a dozen varieties of apples-- Gala, McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Red Delicious, Fuji, Winesap, York, Rome, Granny Smith, and Stayman, to name a few – ripen. Most varieties are available for Pick-your-Own. The fall brings on gourds, Indian corn, mums, and more pumpkins than you have ever seen anywhere, and the best tasting cider money can buy. The biggest attraction at Carter Mountain, however, is the beautiful view overlooking Charlottesville, VA, during the Pick Your Own Apples season. It is truly breathtaking.
Today, at one time or another, the third, fourth, and fifth generations of the Chiles Family can be found planting, pruning, picking, or otherwise providing fresh produce to Central Virginia and beyond. When you visit, be sure to say hello.
