Description
An OS2U Kingfisher is shown returning to the USS North Carolina. The Kingfisher was used for scouting and rescue operations during World War II. The Kingfisher had a number of innovative features, such as spot-welding in its construction instead of the more conventional method of using rivets. It was also able to droop both ailerons so that they could be used as additional flaps when landing. When in this configuration, wing mounted spoilers were used for roll control.
