Description
Blind lobsters of the genus Stereomastis (family Polychelidae) are relatives of true lobsters. The larval stage of blind lobsters is pelagic, living in the water column. As blind lobsters mature, they ultimately sink down to abyssal depths and live their adult lives on the sea floor (members of this family found as deep as 5000 meters). As the common name suggests, they do not have eyes. It was trawled up in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015.
