Cecropia Moth - Like all members of the Giant Silk Moth family, the nocturnal adult cecropia moths are designed only to reproduce, lacking functional mouthparts or digestive system. Therefore, they survive a maximum of about two weeks. - To find a mate, the female cecropia moth emits pheromones, which the male's sensitive antennae can detect up to a mile away, although a male may fly up to 7 miles while searching for a female. Mating begins in the early morning hours and lasts until the evening and soon after the eggs are layed they die. A flame for the moth.....

Barbara St. Jean was born in Maple Ridge, BC. At the age of four she was introduced to Belle Morse from the Maple Ridge Merry Makers and her career in the arts was started. Over the next 26 years she studied dance and acting, and performed in hundreds of well known theatre productions throughout the province. Many of her performances have been televised and are still shown today. In 1980 Barbara opened her own dance studio in Mission, BC and shortly after, received her accreditation in choreography. She graduated from university in 1989 with a degree in Business and Economic Management. Her love of the arts continued to grow and expanded into drawing, sculpting and painting in the early 80’s. Such a beautiful moth and it's life story is too. I love the rich dreamy brown tones of the whole photograph, but especially the moth, and the very delicate black ringed dot on the wing!!! Plus the green trim, oh my and it's decorative edge. Those white apostrophes. Wow! v/f
