I collect travel stamps for a hobby, but when I visited the Noah Webster House in West Hartford Connecticut there was no travel stamp available for my collection booklet so I came across this sticker on your fine website and it is now in my travel stamp booklet under my Noah Webster House visit. The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and democracy, was a gift from France to the United States and was dedicated on October 28, 1886. Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, its copper exterior has oxidised over time, giving it the iconic green colour. Lady Liberty holds a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) inscribed with the date of the United States Declaration of Independence. The seven spikes on her crown represent the seven continents and seven seas, symbolising universal liberty. Standing on Liberty Island in New York Harbour, the statue welcomes millions of visitors each year.

Love this shot... it reminds me of one I took back in the late 40's, but not a sunset or this angle... Its not easy to get the angle you want, when someone else control the boat your on. ;) The sunset makes it a much better shot !

David, this is just an awesome photo, with the beautiful silhouette of the Statue of Liberty created by the sunset. Fantastic colors throughout the sky, almost feels like a halo around the Statue of Liberty has been created. Love how still have a little reflection in the water and enough light to show the ripples in the water.
