Lilacs are one of those "old-fashioned" shrubs that will always have a hold on my heart and my memories. My grandmother and my mother both had beautiful, traditional lilac trees growing outside the kitchen doors - what a perfume, what beautiful flowers!
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

I was just photographing a white lilac today...in my neighborhood while waiting for my pink lilac to open its many blooms. This is so dramatic on black. Have you ever looked at a book entitled "The Paper Garden" by Molly Peacock? A surprising book.....all with black backgrounds..... f/v
Carol Senske replied:
I need to go look up that book - it sounds lovely! I have a tiny lilac tree that my son gave me last year. I coddled it through the winter and now it is leafing out beautifully - about one foot tall. It began life as a shoot beneath a large tree and they are hard to deal with; I'm so tickled this one survived and is making itself a strong and determined plant:>)

Spectacular, Carol!!! gorgeous detail and composition!! Thank you for including my paintings in CHILDREN OF THE WORLD group featured. v/f
Carol Senske replied:
Hanne, you are such a talented artist and your work is a pleasure to see. Thank you for the kind comment and how generous of you to top that with a V/F!

Beautiful & a 5 ***** fave ;~} Valz
Carol Senske replied:
My deep appreciation for you wonderful *'s and comment, Val!!! The *'s remind me of Zazzle - LOL.
Doris Potter
I hope you will photograph the tiny tree when it is in full bloom! Nice story.
Carol Senske replied:
It will probably be so tired of me photographing it that it will stop blooming! Apparently they are cranky about being transplanted and survival is questionable but this one did survive:>) I feel so fortunate! Now to nurture it, coddle it, talk to it (singing would be cruel and unusual punishment so I'll just talk).

They are indeed.. perfumed dreams Carol...this is exquisitely done! The black background is just perfect for this wonder! Superb! Love ii...and I can also smell the perfume... f/v
Carol Senske replied:

This is gorgeous! I have similar memories from when I was a very little girl. :-)
Carol Senske replied:
My son gave me a tiny lilac tree last fall - so tiny I didn't dare plant it so I set the pot in the ground, mulched the heck out of it, and it has BUDS!!!!! I'm so ecstatic that it survived:>)
