Description
I can imagine what one would think to see a little boy looking after his father’s cows. Shouldn’t he be in school? In some situations, children could be forced to leave School to herd cattle. That is not smart in the world we are living today. This only worked long time ago when education in Africa would have meant zero. Today it is a whole new ball game. Children must go to school. Otherwise, one must take a journey back to time.
Things are not that dull anyway, some children take care of cows during school holidays. I used to take care of farm animals during school holidays myself. I learnt how to milk cows and goats, how to protect their shed from wild animals and take them to safe areas of the river to drink water. (Mr. Crocodile has no love lost with wild or domestic herbivores, he will snatch at any ruthlessly)
To a degree, children learning to take care of domestic animals help them build their character. These days even the Maasai of East Africa do take their kids to School and let them take care of animals during holidays.
I learnt respect for a Creator by watching goats, cows, dogs and pigs. I just think they are some of the most beautiful creations that were ever made. I also had plenty of reference materials when drawing. My very first drawing canvas was the ground and walls. Just using a dry stick on the ground or white soft stone on walls and rocks; I would keep drawing all the Animals I and my brother took to the field to graze.
I don’t regret one single part of that adventure. Sometimes I miss it so much. I might actually look after a few cows when I get older (God willing)

It looks like a misty morning- and what could be better as a little boy to be outdoors at sunrise taking care of animals :) LF
