Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

A beautiful setting of tiles as a mandala with strong black highlights setting of the soft tones.
Growing up, my mother got together with adult family for an evening of poker, canasta, and mahjong. Sometimes the gathering was at our house, I could hear the mahjong tiles being moved, and the calls of '1 bam, 4 crack, 5 dot' etc. It sounded like fun, but I was too young.
Years later, we began to meet weekly. We met weekly -- my mom, a sister, a sister-in-law, a cousin, friend. We had a lot of fun. This, too, in time fell apart. My mom went into long term care, people moved away.
Some years later, we tried again. This time at my house, whoever shows up on the last Sunday of every month. My niece recently found a mahjong card from 1942. What fun! '1bam, 4 crack, 5 dot' etc.
My fascination with patterns stems from my love of numbers. While mathematics has been integral in my working career in finance, my other love is painting. My subject matter is inspired by photographs taken by friends and family. I see a photograph in terms of color, line and geometry. These qualities appeal to my sense of order and design (my fascination with numbers translated into art). There are times when a single photograph and the resulting abstract painting leads to another path -- and another painting -- and sometimes a third or fourth version from the same photo. When I draw something, I start with the shapes and then I add the color. After that, and as I move along, I look for balance of shapes and balance of color and...

L A, CONGRATULATIONS! Your work has been featured in the Home Page of The ARTIST BUZzz Group! You are cordially invited to POST image embed links for this distinction to the #8. GAs Features Archive Thread in the discussion tab. Thank you for your glimpse of beauty! WONDERful design and even more beautifully detailed backstory…I too, fondly remember Friday night card games of “pitch” aka setback, at my grandparents. They spoke mainly French and it was such fun…thank you for this beautifully inspired moment…LF
