Description
Marconi's transmitter used in the first transatlantic radio broadcast, from Cornwall, UK, to Newfoundland, USA, in 1901. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was awarded a share in the 1909 Nobel Prize for Physics for this achievement. The wooden racks at centre right hold banks of capacitors, while the transformers can be seen on the left. The spark gap that provided the signal is on the far right.
