Description
One of natures most beautiful experiences is to rescue a monarch caterpillar, house and feed it until it creates this spectacular chrysalis. It will dissolve and become a butterfly in approximately 2 weeks when it pushes itself out of the chrysalis and rests before we release it. This little one sat on my hand for a long time before taking flight.

Judi and Kay, Thank you so much for your Congrats. We found the caterpillar crawling on the bricks in the back yard. It was winter and raining. Off to the nursery we went to purchase a net kennel and Milkweed. I spent the day reading about the care of our little acquisition. For 2 weeks I watched the incredible transition from caterpillar to chrysalis. When the chrysalis became transparent and in vivid colors, I could see the butterfly inside. That is the picture that was posted. It took most of the day but I waited and watched until the chrysalis cracked open and the butterfly emerged. It took several hours of wing drying and flapping until he was up up and away. Amazing! Eileen

Kay and Allison, Thank you so much for your kind comments. We have loved raising the Monarchs but, for some reason, have had no caterpillars recently. Hoping they will return this spring. Appreciatively, Eileen Brabender

Voted for your photo. Beautiful. Since taking photos sept 9 thru 27 2023 of one Caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly series and deciding to self publish soon and hope to get national publication book "save the monarch butterflies: and I have a collection by the same name on my site. I can't help but notice whenever I see art with monarch Caterpillar chrysalis or butterfly and yours is especially pretty. I mean if we can't even preserve the monarchs what chance do the salamanders frogs toads and snakes etc have? Happy to see your work.
